Best Teas for Regulating Female Hormones
A problem of our time- disregulated female hormones.
The more I ask people what herbs they are looking for and to help with what- the more I get answers related to hormone imbalances in females.
There are many specific hormone related issues that come up that have herbs that help them, but my 3 main herbs I will recommend will help with regulation, rest, and anti-inflammation. A dynamite combo to help with the source, or root of the issue- stress. Whether through work, lack of rest, stimuli, food, our world isn’t framed for nurturing the female cycles. But it doesn’t mean you can’t find balance or nourishment, you just have to be a little more intentional.
Teas I Recommend for Balancing Female Hormonal Cycles:
For Stress- Tulsi:
Tulsi, also known as holy basil, offers several benefits for female hormones. It is an adaptogen, helping the body cope with stress and balance hormone levels. Tulsi can regulate cortisol levels, which in turn supports proper functioning of estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. This herb also exhibits anti-androgenic properties, potentially benefiting conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by helping to lower testosterone levels. Additionally, tulsi's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can reduce inflammation in the body, potentially alleviating symptoms related to hormonal imbalances. Incorporating tulsi a daily tea wellness routine to help support healthy hormone balance.
For Inflammation- Peppermint:
Peppermint’s active compounds, particularly menthol, have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties. These properties can help in soothing inflamed areas and reducing swelling. Just as how rubbing a peppermint oil helps soothe sore muscles, sipping peppermint tea helps soothe cramps during menstruation. Peppermint’s cooling properties also soothe the inflamed areas to not be so reactive.
For rest- Chamomile:
This herbal tea is widely known for its calming properties, making it a popular choice for relaxation and stress relief. Incorporate it into your nighttime routine- turn screens off, remove blue light, find a good book, sip some chamomile tea, and signal to your whole body that it’s time for rest. “Sleep hygiene” is such an underrated form of self care that instills a real mindfulness on the impact sleep has on our overall wellbeing.
