The Basmala I Calligraphy
Contemporary Islamic Calligraphy Print
The Basmala I
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Basmala or bi-smi llāhi r-rahmāni r-rahīm (In the name of God, the Most Gracious, The Most Merciful) in full is the opening phrase of the Quran (Islam’s holy book). It is also the opening line of every subsequent chapter of the Quran except for one.
This calligraphy is one in a series of designs inspired by the geometric decorative scripts of Andalusian architecture. This piece has divided the phrase into three focal points. The middle is dominated by the proper noun Allah (God) and the phrase bi-smi llāhi (in the name of) elegantly acts as a roof providing the first focal point for the rest of the composition. The rest of the phrase is found at the bottom of the composition and acts as a base becoming the third focal point.

Al-Safaa
Safaa foundation is a community organization in Bournemouth, UK, which aims to promote spiritual, social, and cultural engagement in the local community and beyond. This is facilitated by creating initiatives and spaces for the community to gain access to the rich heritage of the Islamic classical tradition in a way that is relevant to all regardless of background.
MARAVI COFFEE
Maravi Coffee works with smallholder coffee farmers in Malawi, Africa in a direct supply model. Maravi cuts out the middle-people traders to ensure the coffee farmers directly get the premium that the market is paying for their superior grade coffee. Currently Maravi works with 300 farmers in the northern region of Malawi, but their goal by 2025 is to work directly with 3000 coffee farmers. In addition to direct purchasing and premium trade prices, Maravi works directly in these communities to raise the standard of living for their farmers. The goal is to inspire quality of living that the community itself can sustain with sovereignty. Currently Maravi is establishing coffee plant nurseries and natural composting systems that increase the yield, quality, income, and number of jobs for the communities in Malawi. The donated money from the calligraphy goes directly to the community coffee projects in Malawi, Africa.
Maravi’s model is to get customers to experience the warm heart of Africa (Malawi) in a contemporary, good energy space over an excellent cup of coffee, loose leaf tea, heirloom desserts, or a healthy delicious bite. Currently Maravi has 3 coffee shops in Dorset, UK. Maravi directly imports Malawi coffee into the UK and roasts each bean to perfection. And then according to how you like your coffee, Maravi makes it for you. A truly closed loop coffee model that pushes the envelope of conscious, sustainable trade.
